PMCFC HISTORY
THE HISTORY OF THE FORESIGHT TO ESTABLISH THE PORT MORESBY CITY FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION
The initiative to establish the Port Moresby City Football Club was born in 2018 after the Oceania Football Confederation announced the desire for OFC to introduce a professional league in the region.
Several meetings were initiated culminating in the Port Moresby Soccer Association approving a pathway towards this anticipating an announcement by the OFC of its start in 2025.
In early 2024, The NCD Governor and Patron of the PMSA and now bid sponsor Hon Powes Parkop called a meeting of all football stakeholders to discuss the way forward for football in the capital city and as a tool for social cohesion and pathway development.
This has resulted in a document approved by the PMSA Executive later in the year.
It also culminated into the Governor's Cup Football which kicked off last year as a tournament and the Port Moresby Suburban Football League ready to kick of this year.
Hence the Port Moresby City FC bid is supported by a very long history of football, Football Administrators and footballer players.
The club encompasses football in the capital city of Port Moresby and is the representative team of hundreds of footballers and supporters of football in the capital city.
The major sponsor and initiator, the National Capital District Commission, the municipal authority of the country's capital city has been a sponsor of the country's biggest football association, the Port Moresby Soccer Association, who is amongst and is the first member Association of the Papua New Guinea Football Association from 1962.
PORT MORESBY SOCCER ASSOCIATION(PMSA)
The PMSA has a Women's Completion having a Premier Division and Youth Division and the Men's Division having a Premier Division, 1st Division, 2nd Division and a youth division with 10 clubs in each category totalling ...clubs and representing...players both Men and Women.
The PMCFC is representative of all the clubs and players in all categories in PMSA and is the top pinnacle of the pathway pursued by the PMSA.

The concept and initiative for Port Moresby to enter the OFC Pro League was not born this year 2025 when the EOI was announced rather it was discussed and hatched in 2018 when discussions begun for this OFC Pro League.
Various meetings and a plan were put in place since 2018 when the OFC announced the intention to establish a professional league.
However, Covid 19 halted all plans, and this was resurrected again when FIFA announced its approval of the OFCPL.

This is some ...years of football experience and background and corporate and business experiences and background and will make up also the Club Board when OFC gives approval for participation.
The football dream of thousands of footballers represented in this pathway will be realized.
Port Moresby City FC is only the club entity name and conduit justified by its sponsor but embodies a football community and pathway that is long and well established under the sanctity of Port Moresby Soccer Assocation which is a long-standing full member of the Papua New Guinea Football Association since 1962.
